Former President Bill Clinton said Tuesday that the success of the alternative energy movement is hampered by a lack of financing.


Sorry, Bill ... no.  If the alternative energy movement made sense, wise capitalists would be investing in it so they could make more than the banks' 1.5% passbook rates.


But most of the "Green Movement" is a collection of scams.  Solyndra, anyone???

Crooks at the White House?

When a big Obama campaign donor had an idea for a wireless system at his company, LightSquared, he needed radio spectrum -- access to some frequencies to use.  The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) was reluctant to approve the spectrum requested, since it was near in frequency to the US Air Force's GPS system (same one we also use for our car navigation).

LightSquared contacted the White House for assistance.  Good move, since the FCC Chairman, Julius Genachowski, is one of Obama's buddies from their days together at Harvard Law.  (Genachowski doesn't know much about communications.  He probably picked up a few tidbits along the way but he's a lawyer first, nothing much second.)

Of course, the FCC fast-tracked approval for LightSquared, despite potential interference to GPS, which operates in a nearby frequency block.  Initial tests showed the new system did interfere.

The White House wanted to keep that news suppressed.

Paul Krugman Hates Republicans

This is apparent from his latest blog post at the New York Times.  For no good reason, he used the occasion of the 9/11 Anniversary to call Rudolph Giuliani and George W. Bush "phony heroes."  Everybody else had something appealing to say.  Not him.

If you think you want to read what Krugman said, you'll figure a way to find it.  He's not getting any extra readers from the Curmudgeon.

The Government Hates Gibson Guitars

Obama's Justice Department [sic] has attacked Gibson Guitar on the basis that they're using the wrong wood in the wrong country or countries.

Wood crime.  Wood crime?  Yes, wood crime.

Gibson is non-union.  Apparently that's the real "crime."

More of the Same

The Jobs Bill to be presented by President Obama early next month in a national address, will have nothing new in it.  He has nothing to offer except more of the same -- ideas that have already failed, many of them more than once.

The reason jobs are scarce is that most businesses are scared silly about the future and will not be committing to enlarge, modernize or expand to new locations.  They fear there will be no profit in it -- or worse, that the government will kill the business altogether with more nutty regulation or schemes like ObamaCare, the Socialized Medicine clone from Europe and Canada.

With the speech, Obama is wasting his time, he's wasting your time and he's stealing from the TV networks, who would rather be presenting profitable programs.  It's a shame they're made to feel obligated to give their valuable time to Obama for a free political campaign speech?  That's all it is.

Total National Debt Hypocrisy

... adding $4 trillion to the national debt, [is] “unpatriotic” and also “irresponsible” to saddle future generations with such a large national debt.


You can't argue with it.  Obama agrees.  He said it about Bush but then proceeded to do it again, himself -- and in a lot less time.

Obama Official: Illegal Aliens Will Receive Work Permits

According to a Wall Street Journal report, illegal aliens will be eligible to receive work permits if their deportation is deferred through the Obama Administration's new policy. Yesterday, the Administration announced that the Department of Homeland Security will review all deportation cases on a case-by-case basis and only deport illegal aliens who have been convicted of crimes.

It Definitely Isn't Working

     Socialism, well-executed, may work.  We don't know because we've never seen it.

     Socialism, poorly executed, is a disaster. We know because we're seeing it being played out in our daily lives.

     Nationally, Barack Obama is an avowed Socialist and as such, his policies and practices are a menace to the economy. His ideas, centering on super-power bureaucracy in Washington, stifle innovation and business expansion.  Forty million people are on food stamps. Hospital emergency rooms are clogged with poor people whom the doctors and nurses are forced to treat at gunpoint. Major car companies were recently nationalized to rescue the workers' union jobs. Overall employment is going down, not up.  Payments to people who don't work just keep getting sweeter and sweeter.  It's all bad.

     Everywhere locally, idealistic environmentalist air-heads, tutored by the EPA  run roughshod over industry in the name of saving insignificant plants and animals from non-existent "perils."  At one state level, the California Air Resources Board is a monumental example of crushing regulations.  ARB  Their attitude: "We battle pollution without regard for who gets wasted in the crossfire."

     The Curmudgeon declares that, for 2012, it's Anybody But Obama.  Best slogan:  "Obie Must Go"

Harry Reid Says, "The Spending Must Continue"

In a public statement today, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said the House compromise bill on Debt Reduction would be defeated.  He cited what he described as a short-term "Band-Aid" approach.  Reid opposes any plan to raise the Debt Limit that would require yet another increase before the 2012 election.

This means only that he expects the pace of insane spending to continue unabated.

Evil.

That Nasty Ol' National Debt

What makes it an issue now? $14.3 trillion dollars worth of U.S. debt.

It is not just the size of this debt, probably the greatest that any nation has ever owed in history, it is that it was initially due to a financial rescue program in 2008 when President Bush and Congress sought to avoid a collapse of Wall Street and banks. The TARP funds were eventually repaid.

Part of the current debt is due to massive spending programs by the Obama administration, allegedly to “create or save” jobs and “stimulate” the economy. They did neither.

Connecticut Residents, You Cheapskates! Pay More! Pay Now!

Connecticut residents may or may not have noticed that more items are now subject to the sales tax, but it will be hard to miss the additional taxes that will be withheld from their paychecks in a week’s time.

Starting on Aug. 1, the state will begin to capture the boost in the income tax for 2011 approved by lawmakers in May, which is retroactive to the beginning of the calendar year.

Single and joint filers earning $50,000 a year will see about $200 in additional withholding through December, as will joint filers earning $100,000. Single filers making $100,000 will see about $605 disappear from their paychecks.
